Event Details

Thinking about getting some chickens in the yard? Fresh eggs every day, free range sculpture outside your window? Fresh honey?

Urban Farming is sweeping the country, with urban farmers changing zoning regulations in municipalities large and small in order to allow backyard animal husbandry. Come learn the practical ins and outs of keeping chickens and bees comfortably and successfully in your urban setting. You never knew how many friends you had until you start sharing those fresh eggs!

Sid Fleischer joined with his neighbors in SouthTroy to create an urban oasis for fresh food production. He will give us a tour of their burgeoning chicken operation, beekeeping, gardens and a tutorial on urban composting. He will cover practical care and the economics of raising many different kinds of food in an urban setting. Please wear comfortable shoes as we will be walking to other homestead sites.

Everyone will go home with a lots of practical information and fresh, free range eggs. The details of this workshop are still evolving but please reserve your tickets now and we will send you an update.

*******************************************************************************************

These workshops are deliberately designed to be low tech and home-scale and emphasize hands-on-learning so that you can easily incorporate these kitchen arts into your daily or weekly routines. All food demonstrations will send you home with lots of information and samples, when possible. Please peruse the entire schedule - you may want to take more than one!

Annual RFFP membership is $50 and will discount all upcoming events and classes. Discounts are offered for farmers, students and seniors, please use the info email to inquire. We are trying to keep these events as affordable as possible without compromising our teaching staff or materials. Classes are kept small and will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Any questions, please contact info@farmandfood.org.

Let's have some fun!
